Okay, I'm making an executive decision ;-)
Since we've had no word about the book to start today, and we've also all been busy with very little discussion of the last few books, the next two weeks will be a "catch up" time, where we can take time to read a book we've missed, and go back to discuss any book we've read so far.
Please, please, please post a thought, or a question, or anything at all, about Memoirs, either of the books on Class, The Time Traveler's Wife, or Flowers for Algernon. Then, discuss! That's why we're here!
If you're itching for something to read now, saioboepedge can let us know what's up next on the 19th, so we can also use this time to get ahead a little, too.
To be honest, I'm not very good at discussing books. Nor am I very good at finishing them. I started Memoirs, Class, Freakonomics, and Time Traveler's Wife and didn't finish any of them. They were all good, and I especially enjoyed TTW.
I don't know what it is...I guess books just don't hold my attention anymore, or maybe I'm simply too stressed out to add more thoughts to my brain. I used to read like crazy, so it's pretty sad that these days I can't even commit to finishing a magazine.
I'm actually catching up. I just bought Time Traveler's Wife though I don't anticipate finishing any time soon. Here are my two cents on the discussions which I mustly lurk on:
In my other book clubs, we're a lot more structured to the point that the discussions last approximately 2 weeks after a month of reading time. The discussions are based on the books (likes and dislikes), inspired by the books (so and so did this, would you? what real life experience is similar to what the characters have gone through), and the random fun stuff (any song or movie remind you of the book). We include seeing movies based on books and also created games like coming up with an aspect of the book for each letter of the alphabet, word jumbles, random things like that. It's labor-intensive, and we're actually looking to relax a lot of the structure we've put in place because it got too overwhelming for some of the participants, but it's just a thought.
I love how you choose people to pick the book. We vote in my other book club and there's too much drama and lobbying for certain books. I'm much better in a dictatorship.
nowherewithyou and I have never done this before, so as you catch up, please do post discussions along those lines! Any discussion at all is welcome. I think we've moved through the last few books so quickly that it will work well for all of us to have some time to catch up.
my book isn't coming up until the beginning of June but I've already picked it. If someone could remind me of which dates I am responsible for (or tell me where I can find that) I would appreciate it.
also, comment if you want to know the book and buy it ahead of time!
The schedule is back here- http://community.livejournal.com/cyberc
You had early April, but asked Kelly to switch us, so I took that spot and you get mine, August 4th-18th. iWhat book did you pick?? I really like to get them early when I can.
LOL, I've read everything already, it seems. Do it anyway, though, it's a great book! I have it on CD and "read" it on one of my drives to Oklahoma, and it made me pass up fast food for the whole trip!
I can send anyone a copy of the CDs who wants to read it that way :-)
